The Sacred Path: Outdoor Skills Camp

If you were ever lost or separated from your group would you know how to survive without modern conveniences? Most people wouldn't know the first thing to do if they were ever faced with a crisis and lost the use of electricity and power.

Native Americans were savvy survivors. They always stayed connected with the earth like the four leggeds. They could tell the time of day without a watch, know if bad weather was approaching and how to protect themselves from the elements , and could tell what direction they were going at any time. These talents have been lost over the years because people have become disconnected from Mother Earth and Father Sky.

The White Buffalo Academy Sacred Path Program will hold short term outdoor skills camps periodically to help students become reconnected to nature and be able to participate in learning skills that their ancestors once used for survival.

They will learn how to make fire by friction, nap an arrowhead, brain tan a hide, make rope from a yucca plant, make a canteen for water from a gourd, and participate in nature hikes identifying plant life that can be used for food, water, or for medicinal purposes. Youth will have the opportunity to sleep in authentic teepees and experience the beauty of Missouris' rolling hills and countryside.

The outdoor camps are a great way for students to work as a group, build the skills necessary to survive in the wilderness , and experience nature the way the ancient ones did.
