The Sacred Path Program: Equine Therapy

The horse was a very sacred animal to the Native American people. The warriors of a tribe were believed to have six legs instead of two because they were so connected to their horse.

Animals , especially horses, provide a deep form of therapeutic release for humans. Our Equine program allows students to connect with the "four leggeds" on a higher level and begin to establish a greater sensitivity to the energy that surrounds them.

Understanding the horse and its behavior is an intrical part of the equine experience. We take students through a comprehensive program before they even place one foot in a stirrup. Youth are taught how to properly care for and feed a horse, how to groom a horse , how to understand the body language of a horse, and important safety precautions when riding or working around a horse. Students are given ample time to become acquainted with these lovely creatures and develop a bond that will have profound positive effects for both the horse and the rider. Youth will learn respect and responsibility along with problem solving and communication skills.

The equine program will be available to those students who cooperate with all daily activities and are helpful and caring towards staff and other students. This program is a priviledge not a requirement.
